National Geographic Adventure Folds
Sunday, 6 December 2009
National Geographic Adventure, one of the leading outdoor magazines in the United States, announced at the end of last week that it would cease monthly publication immediately. Nat Geo has been under considerable pressure in the recession and had already axed a number of jobs in their books division. Now seventeen editorial staff in Nat Geo Adventure's New York offices will be made redundant. American magazine publishing has been in freefall during the recession, largely due to a collapse in advertising revenues. The magazine will continue to publish two special issues a year and National Geographic Traveler continues to publish – for now. The interesting question is what editor John Rasmus, who has run Men's Journal and Outside and is regarded as a guru in men's magazine publishing in the US, will do next.
