Banff Director Leaves
Friday, 9 April 2010
Hot on the heels of earlier job cuts and restructuring at the Banff Centre comes news that mountain festivals director Shannon O'Donoghue has left too. Insiders say that Banff will look outside the organisation to find a new director and not promote someone from within the longstanding team O'Donoghue leaves behind. Banff has radically altered its staff at director level in the last five years, following senior management changes. After years of growth and stability under the leadership of Bernadette McDonald and Shannon O'Donoghue, it seems that one of the world's very best mountain festivals is now in a period of flux. Calm & Fearless thinks the book festival is likely to suffer most, since Banff's top brass seem to think it can maintain ticket sales for movies while cutting back on less profitable literary events. If that's the case, then the best outdoor literary event in the world will be no more. Are we downhearted? Er. Yes.
